NAPIER DEATH METAL FEST 2021 at THE CABANA

Being from Hawkes Bay originally you’d think I’d have been all over the Napier Death Metal Festival before now, but timing seemingly has never worked out til this year - the 10th (I believe) occurrence of NDMF, held at my old local venue of The Cabana.

Stand out acts this year for me: MALEVOLENCE, VASSAFOR, GRAVES, and headliners ULCERATE.

I think last night was one of the best sets from Vassafor I’ve heard/seen - with a solid dose of slow dirgy tempod black metal amongst the cacophonous madness surrounding it.

Graves ripped out a high paced, high energy dose of hardcore/death, Carnal lead the way in stank-face and stomp from Jessie and Dan, whilst Leon effortlessly spills all over the drums with moves most inhuman.

Ulcerate headlined with a surprisingly withdrawn sound - or more, spacious and roomy - volume loud, but not bleeding offering up, much like Vassafor before them - one of the best sets I’ve heard - so much sound and presence from three souls.
