Smash Fest 2021
Gisborne on January 2-3 2021.
Having the freedom to start 2021 camping freely in the sun (minus some torrential rain) with some of New Zealands leading, and upcoming heavy metal bands was an excellent way to usher in the End of Days.
Featuring the return of Smashfest favorites brutal lads CARNAL, and a freshly reunited SILENT TORTURE - this year brought out the hardcore with TEETH AND NAILS and DEADSET and the blackened cries of FALL OF MAN.
TAIRAWEHITI FIRE TRIDE and the WILD EARTH BELLY DANCE crew uped their game trememdously with a mesmerizing ritual of burning.
All the while being a family friendly and fun camping experience for all!
SmashFest 2022 marks the tenth anniversary of this small, underground, and unique music event - and is surely one not to miss.
Somehow this post has been stuck in DRAFT for 1/2 a year, so it’s about time to break it out and unleash it. Whilst the full SmashFest 10 Anniversary show couldn’t go ahead for <redacted> reasons - a much more scaled down version of called SmashFest 9.5 took it place.

Once again this year saw us heading over to Smash Palace Gisborne over on the east coast of New Zealand for the annual heavy metal festival SmashFest (see 2018 and 2019’s photos) featuring some of New Zealands best underground/unsigned metal bands along with Australian headliners Temtris.
Last year I had the pleasure hitting my first Smash Fest down in Gisborne, New Zealand - and this year I was back again for another round of some of New Zealand's best underground and upcoming metal acts, along with a healthy dose of Medieval fighting between acts.
It was a long two days in Gisborne at my first HELL Smash Fest and I was not entirely sure what to expect...
